Green Porno

I remember seeing one or two of the videos in the Green Porno series before, but the three we watched in class were quite new territory. And I thought they were hilarious. It's interesting to see animal mating techniques performed by a human for the purpose of education. While the content is probably not one you'd want to show to elementary school children, the format of the videos was almost so easy to understand that you could potentially show it to elementary school children and have them comprehend the material. I know as we were leaving class a few people were expressing negative reactions to the videos and I think that has to do a great deal with ideology. I can guarantee that my fellow peers wouldn't have reacted that way if we were watching an animal planet documentary about mating techniques, something that is strictly biological. Because Isabella Rossellini inserted herself into the videos and made the mating comical, it probably jostled my peers more than it would have. Our ideologies conflict with a great deal of aspects, especially biology. And I think that some people dislike when the two are so explicitly intertwined. But I enjoyed it nonetheless!

  1. Good point when you stated that your peers only viewed the negatives; I was one of them. I just thought it was a little awkward but then I had to take a step back and think that it is natural!

  2. Vanessa, I'd like to hear more about what you mean by "awkward" and why does nature make you more comfortable with the awkwardness you encountered?

Hannah, your point about the human element of Isabella Rossellini being inserted into the animal world makes so much sense.
